The StealthX wing was a starfighter force formed by the New Jedi Order, during the Second Galactic Civil War in 40 ABY. It consisted entirely of Jedi pilots, flying almost-undetectable StealthX fighters.
Operational HistoryEdit
The origins of the wing lay in a request from Jacen Solo. Determined to preserve the unity of the galactic government against the forces of fragmentation represented by the Confederation, he had seized control of the Galactic Alliance, and secretly defected to the Sith, taking the title of Darth Caedus. Now, anticipating that a key battle would be fought at Balmorra against the Confederation fleets advancing into the Core Worlds, Jacen asked the Jedi to assign some of their StealthX fighters to the Fourth Fleet for the campaign.[1]
Although the Jedi Council initially refused the request, Jedi Grand MasterLuke Skywalker saw an opportunity to turn the tables on Jacen,[2] and organized the StealthX wing in secret. The new Jedi fighting force revealed itself in a dramatic intervention at Balmorra,[3] launching an unexpected and devastating attack on the Commenorian fleet,[4] the most powerful of the Confederation battlegroups involved in the confrontation. This intervention proved decisive in shaping the outcome of the battle.
Somewhat reluctantly, the Jedi agreed to base themselves aboard Jacen's command ship, the Star Destroyer Anakin Solo.[5]. When the focus of the war shifted to Kuat, they were expected to play a decisive role in the Alliance plan for victory.[6]
However, when news came that Ben Skywalker had been involved in the assassination of deposed Chief of StateCal Omas, the Jedi withdrew from the Alliance, blaming Jacen for the action.[7] Flying to Kashyyyk, they declared their intention to oppose his government, a move that was instrumental in persuading the Wookiee homeworld to join the Jedi Coalition later on.[8]
The StealthX wing now based themselves in Military Hangar 15 in Rwookrrorro,[9] presumably as formal allies of the Wookiee military, with the support of local ground-crews.[10] Flying from here, they took part in the Battle of Kashyyyk, launching an all-out strike against the attacking Galactic Alliance Fifth Fleet, while Master Skywalker flew in a shadow bomb attack on the Anakin Solo.[11]
The attack was met with mixed success. The Night Blades squadron lost three pilots to effective flak defense in their attack on the Victory-class Star DestroyerVulnerator, for little obvious gain,[12] but although the attack on the Anakin Solo appeared to end with the loss of Master Skywalker and his fighter,[13] it had in fact been a feint, designed to allow Luke and R2-D2 to infiltrate the Alliance flagship.[14]
After the Confederation retreat from Kashyyyk, the wing relocated to a base on Endor, where the fighters were scattered in wing-pairs through the forest around the new Jedi base.[15] One pilot, Tahiri Veila, had committed herself to serving the Alliance, and Caedus dispatched her with her fighter in an unsuccessful attempt to locate the hidden base of the newly formed Jedi Coalition.[16]
Subsequently, Grand Master Skywalker led a small flight of fighters to attack Darth Caedus during a truce meeting with Corellian forces.[17] Their plan was to stage a sneak attack on the Sith Lord's Star Destroyer, after which Skywalker and Kyp Durron would board the ship and confront him.[18]
Star stable 2 download. Finding Caedus airborne in his TIE Reconnaissance Fighter,[18] they staged a successful ambush,[19] but Skywalker's realization that Caedus had his daughter Allana with him forced him to break off the attack at the last minute.[20]
The StealthX wing later saw action during the Battle of Uroro Station. Luke Skywalker led the wing on two separate raids on the Anakin Solo. The first raid was a failed attempt to board the ship and rescue Prince Isolder who had been captured earlier by Darth Caedus. After taking losing a considerable amount of fighters Grand Master Skywalker was forced to call off the attack. After Jaina Solo killed Darth Caedus another assault was launched. With the Sith Lord dead, Darth Caedus's Sith Battle meditation was no longer a threat to the Jedi pilots. The Jedi boarded the Anakin Solo, fought through Galactic Alliance and Imperial troopers, and then negotiated a temporary partnership between the Imperial Remnant and Jedi Coalition. This forced the Confederation to surrender which ended the Second Galactic Civil War.
OrganizationEdit
The wing included every Jedi StealthX that was combat-ready: the total number of ships available was between seventy and eighty starfighters, and it appears that the actual combat strength came close to that figure at the start of the wing's deployment.[21]
Sky high full movie online in telugu. The force was divided into six squadrons, each containing about a dozen fighters.[14] Each known squadron leader was a Jedi Master, and each known squadron name was based on combining the name of a bladed weapon and an adjective indicating dark color.[5] These names implicitly combined the image of the Jedi lightsaber and the stealth-attack role of the fighters that the pilots flew.
Thus, Kyp Durron led Shadow Saber squadron, Saba Sebatyne led the Night Blades, and Kenth Hamner commanded Dark Sword squadron.[5] The other squadrons were presumably organized along similar lines: although their designations and commanders are not known, the role of Corran Horn in the discussion prior to the Battle of Kuat hints that he may have been another squadron leader.[6]
The exact position of Master Skywalker within the organization is not clear. He acted as overall commander in the briefing at Kuat,[6] but he flew a solo mission at Kashyyyk, independent of any squadron unit.[11] His fighter briefly flew with the Night Blades, but this need not indicate any permanent affiliation with that unit.[12]
The wing took combat losses at Kashyyyk—the Night Blades lost three of their pilots, and Jaina Solo feared that the figures could have been as high throughout the wing, comprising around twenty-five percent of total combat strength.[12]
During the later attempt to assassinate Darth Caedus, a unit designated Red Sword Flight was formed, led in person by Grand Master Skywalker, and consisting of six heavily-loaded fighters, crewed by three senior Jedi Masters, each with a knight as his wing-mate.[17] For this mission, one fighter, flown by the Rodian knight Twool, carried enhanced sensors: replacing some of the weapons mounted by the others, these arrays were intended to provide a pinpoint location of the Sith Lord.[17]

Well, this was unique. I've read cover blurbs that give away the set up of the book, but never before have I read one, as Stealth has, which gave away the entire plot. Granted, this book was just a four hundred page setup for the second book of the series, but you'd think they'd leave the reader some suspense.

Karen Miller’s high regard and curiosity concerning Obi-Wan Kenobi is quite charming. In her second Star Wars book, Clone Wars Gambit: Stealth, every character has a lot to shoulder in the war, even (and especially) Obi-Wan.

Cliffhangers are always annoying, but this book was mostly about Obi-Wan getting progressively more wounded and exhausted and filthy with every new chapter and being very stoic about it while literally every other character yells at him to get medical attention. And I'm very into that.

The fact that Karen is a damned good writer and storyteller doesn’t have to be discussed or explained; her Empress trilogy really impressed me, and (as I’ve said to many people) The Falcon Throne is, in my honest opinion, better than what GRRM has given us with ASoIaF. And Karen has written more than one Star Wars novel (The Clone Wars: Wild Space, was her first) and I really enjoyed what she did with Obi-Wan and Bail Organa, but damn, in Stealth, Karen really opened up – I haven’t read any othe..more
I am enjoying how Miller fleshes out the character of Obi Wan. Also, how she (and other authors) flesh out Anakin's fall to the Dark Side. In this book you see the attachments and emotions that drive that fall. If you are a Star Wars dork like I am, this is a great read.

May the Fourth be with you! It’s unfortunate that the Ahsoka Tano character (Anakin’s Padawan) was ever created, but that isn’t Miller’s fault. Luckily, Ahsoka isn’t in the novel too much. I really liked Miller’s first SW novel, Wild Space, but felt the first third of the book didn’t need to be there. It’s the same in this case: the scene on the ship sets up only part of the plot, and is longer than necessary. The rest of the story follows Anakin and Obi-Wan as they investigate a hunch by Bail O..more

This was just okay for me. I'm no expert on Star Wars, let alone Star Wars books. I can only say I've watched the movies and I have read one book. So with that little disclaimer, I didn't love this.
It read like youth fiction. With teenagers, I have read a lot of YF over the years and some of it is very well written, so I'm not slamming YF by throwing this book into it. I was just so tired of Anakin and his constant whining. It never ended. That a..more

This turned out to be a pretty good read, even if it did take me more than 2 years to finish it. I liked the banter and even the arguing between Obi-Wan and Anakin. It gave some foreshadowing of things to come. It will be interesting to see how this turns out in book 2.

The quality of writing is significantly better than the other Star Wars novel I am currently in the middle of, Last Shot: A Han and Lando Novel, which I have been bogged down on for months, and it seems to have something interesting to present to the reader, i.e. the moral quandary that someone might find themselves in when asked to weigh the lives of their close friends and family against th..more

I enjoyed Miller's last Star Wars book Clone Wars: Wild Space. It examined and built up the relationship between Obi-Wan and Bail Organa which wasn't a very touched upon are. In my opinion she did an excellent job of showing the human and beyond human aspects of the characters in a tough situation. This book attempted to apply that same formula to a relationship that is already very heavily explored and the portrayal comes across as out of character. I do feel like she is good with less explored..more

In this two-novel set, Anakin and Obi-Wan Kenobi pose as natives on the planet of Lanteeb in order to confirm suspicions that the Separatists are close to creating a bioweapon. They confirm that it is indeed the case, but are very nearly killed when they are discovered. An EU book that takes place during the Clone Wars. This book had its good and bad parts. I thought the author did a good job with the interaction between the two main characters. Also, I enjoyed the examples of Anakin's progression to the dark side. The bad part of this novel is that it was agonizingly slow. There was a dinner scene with light talk that took 5 pages. Also, this book just stopped and nothing was concluded. This is the first of a duology but there should have been some conclusion..more

This is fun. Karen Miller isn't my favorite Star Wars author because she tends to be a little loosey-goosey, tell-don't-show with characterization. But these two novels were good and I liked the variety of characters. I like getting Sidious and the dark characters' points of view along with the good.
I like the continuing Clone Wars discussion/critique of compassion vs. Jedi detachment, right for the individual vs. right for the whole.

Great undercover Jedi story, setting up some great moments of Anakin and Obi-Wan having to act from the shadows and the clear philosophical conundrums that places these two Jedi in. One of the best written villains in EU Clone Wars novelizations. Karen Miller deserves a place among the great SW serial novelists!

This is story from the Clone Wars..Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi end up going undercover on the planet of Lanteeb in order to investigate a possible bioweapon. I enjoyed reading more about the character make-up of both of these characters. Plus the book reflects how powerful the Jedis were during this time period.
Again great weekend read.

I wasn't exactly kind to Miller in my review of her last book, Wild Space. Though I found her writing skills to be far above most authors in the Star Wars universe, I still found that book to be tremendously boring and a real struggle to enjoy. Because of my experience with Miller, I think it's easy to see why I went into Clone Wars Gambit: Stealth with a bit of a chip on my shoulder, worried that the next installment of the Clone Wars would be a lesson in insanity (doing the same thing, over an..more

I wrote down a TON of quotes on this book so don't be shocked when I just comment on those and not the actual plot to this book, let's get started!

Well it wasn’t all terrible there were a few good moments but otherwise a hot mess. Like all the other things associated with Filoni’s Clone Wars this is a hot mess filled with contradictions. Point one Obi-Wan has another girlfriend. Three if you include this as part of the Eu. Siri, Satine and now Taria Damsin. Nope don’t buy that. Point two Jedi can now vanish in the force, pretty sure this book is the only incidence where that happens. Point three is just a narrative issue. The first half of..more

Karen Miller has a knack for fleshing out existing characters beyond the parameters of what we already knew about them from other media, and without making it needless add-ons. She builds on the foundations of the characters and examines them deeply so as to make their development and progression organic. This, when coupled with a very in-universe story true to the feel of the Clone Wars TV series it spun from makes for a fun, thrilling ride, all the while remaining more complex and, yes, mature..more
Part one of a two book set, this story takes place in the Clone Wars. Master Kenobi and Master Skywalker find themselves in a covert operation alone deep in a Separatist held planet. The author worked Skywalker's character, displaying quite amply the escalating tension between the former Padawan and his mentor. I did think at times that this familiar element in the character development between the two well known players of the Star Wars story was a bit over emphasized and tedious though. It slo..more
More terrifying adventures with Obi-Wan and the ever-teetering Anakin, with some Ahsoka and Bail cameos tossed in for good measure. Miller's Obi-Wan characterisation is so good, it's scary - it aligns brilliantly with the show and the other novels. Also, every allusion she makes to Anakin's ultimate fate or the fate of Obi-Wan or the Jedi as a whole leaves me chilled; as does Bail's vague but dismissed mistrust of Palpatine. God. The tragedy in this thing.
story: 6/10
Pro: Seeing how truly evil Lok Durd is is quite eye-opening. The separatists can truly be horrible.
Con: maybe it's because i'm just tired of Clone War novels, but this just felt like a boring little mission. 'stop the bioweapon' 'don't get caught' bleh

More quotes…Star Wars Battlefront 2’s campaign is a gorgeous shooting gallery that takes you to amazing planets, both old and new. But is it any more than that? These are my thoughts on the single player part of the game, and I’ll be following up with a review of the multiplayer after the game properly comes out this Friday.
I’ll start with the story, which has an enticing setup that doesn’t lead anywhere interesting. For most of the campaign, you play as Iden Versio, the leader of elite Imperial special forces unit ‘Inferno Squad’. Once I got past the dodgy band name, I was initially intrigued by Iden and her role in the Empire.
In the first mission, Iden executes a ship full of rebels before launching herself out of an airlock for a mid-space extraction. It’s one of many high-octane moments that could have come straight out of a modern Star Wars movie, but what really got my attention was the way she immediately complimented the pilot that came to her rescue. It’s enjoyably odd seeing servants of the Empire being nice to each other, and was even disarming enough to make me empathise with them when the Death Star got destroyed shortly after.
At that point, I thought I was going to get a new, nuanced perspective on the Empire that made it out to be something other than comic-book evil. Admittedly, it’s an oppressive organisation headed by a vampirish figure who’s fond of shooting lightning out of his hands while cackling hysterically. He’s quickly taken out of the picture, however, which opens the door to all kinds of possibilities.
What if there was a force (sorry) within the Empire pushing for reform? What if Battlefront 2 was about trying to circumvent the last orders of a deceased maniacal dictator, and turn the Empire into the peacekeeping, law enforcing body that it purports to be? That’s a story I’d have liked to have been told, rather than being lectured about the importance of hope in the face of blatantly evil acts done in the name of ‘order’.
Thing is, there’s nothing wrong with a bit of actual order! In a section where you wander around Maz’s castle – as first seen in The Force Awakens – you can overhear various shady characters trying to threaten and extort each other. There’s absolutely a case to be made that imposing the rule of law on the galaxy would make it a better place, and so it’s a shame that Battlefront 2 never explores it. An early mission in which you actually help some citizens might have justified Iden’s loyalty to the Empire, given the ideals she expresses from the outset.
She’s enough of a badass that I couldn’t help but like her, even if she is a bit bland and not as smart as the game makes her out to be. There are multiple moments where Iden comes up with a Clever Plan. “I’ve got an idea”, she’ll announce, as her squadmates wait to see what ingenious scheme she’s concocted this time. Her idea is, invariably, to blow something up.
Fortunately, blowing things up is what both Iden and Battlefront 2 does best. There’s a simple joy to watching Star Destroyers light up like fireworks, AT-ATs stagger to the ground and X-wings explode. The whole game is gorgeous, and lets you soak in familiar locations like Endor and Jakku in a way that matches and even surpasses the grandeur of their Hollywood counterparts. Pleasingly, the tour doesn’t only stop at old locations – there are several new, properly alien looking planets to shoot your way through too.
You’ll see some of those planets from the perspectives of familiar heroes, with one-off missions that let you take control of Luke, Leia and others. I’ve got mixed feelings about their inclusion. On the one hand, mowing down stormtroopers with a lightsaber and overpowered force moves provides a nice counterpoint to the duck and cover shooting that Iden gets up to. On the other, they result in a disjointed narrative that stalls any character development Iden had left in her, and makes the plot feel closer to a montage of spectacular, unrelated battles than a coherent story.
It may be visually varied, but that diversity doesn’t extend to the gunplay itself. Over the five or six hours of the campaign, you’ll fight the same enemy types again and again, which are distinguished from each other only by the way some of them have bigger guns. There are officers which you’re encouraged to take out before their subordinates, but it doesn’t make that much of a difference. The weapons do feel like they have heft behind them, which is a massive improvement from the first game, though it doesn’t really come close to providing the same satisfaction as popping heads in Destiny.
I do like the active reload system, where re-tapping the reload button at the right moment will let you go straight back to firing. There’s a special gold sweet spot that lets you fire for a brief period without having to worry about overheating – deciding whether to risk attempting to hit that narrow window is an interesting mid-combat decision.
There are a dozen or so different guns available from the start, but none of them can feel that distinctive when every enemy goes down in one headshot. It’s a bit different in the multiplayer, where your opponents are naturally more deadly and you have their abilities to contend with, but in the single player I rarely felt the need to swap my loadout around. Dabbling with the different guns is like trying a mildly interesting new flavour of ice cream. The A280 is to the TL-50 as toffee is to fudge. One exception to that is when I tried equipping a sniper rifle, and combined it with an ability that let me temporarily equip a shotgun to compensate for my lack of short-range damage.
You can equip 3 of those abilities in your loadout. They either provide a passive effect like shortening your health regen delay, or give you a tool like a thermal detonator or an energy shield. Frustratingly, at the start of each level it swaps in a new loadout without asking. You can change back, but it’s an unnecessary intrusion that made me resent having to faff around replacing my abilities and gun choice. I get that the game wants me to try out new toys, but having them forcibly placed into my hand when I’ve just settled on a build doesn’t make me want to do that.
At times, Battlefront 2 skirts the fringes of a stealth game, providing a few opportunities to sneak up on enemies and silently whack them into oblivion with a baton. I felt like I was doing that more for the sake of it than because it’s an effective approach: I’d inevitably be spotted after one or two takedowns, and then find myself in a more vulnerable position than if I’d just taken them out with a quick headshot from a distance. Simply allowing me to mark enemies with anything other than one ability on a cooldown would have helped, though it still takes so much time and effort to go in for a melee kill that I doubt I’d have behaved all that differently.
Melee kills do recharge the ability of your droid, which can electrocute a group of enemies whenever its zap-o-meter fills, but you can also fill that bar up by simply going for headshots. And again, enemies go down so quickly on the standard difficulty that I seldom had any need for it. It’s another waste of potential, both mechanically and from a character perspective. Iden just calls it ‘Droid’, and its defining personality trait is floating at an alien who gets annoyed at it. It’s nothing like the robo-relationships that R2 and BB-8 bring to the table.
There are spaceship missions too, which feature some of the game’s biggest spectacles but also the dullest combat. I quickly grew tired with fighting wave after wave of bombers and fighter craft, and bringing down the bigger objectives is even worse. There’s not really much skill involved in the dog fighting, and the only times I died were when I crashed into a capital ship by impatiently trying to minimise the number of strafing runs it takes to bring them down.
In one particularly annoying space section (that came straight off the back of another one) I got held up for a while by an errant objective marker. Back on land, another bug disabled the ‘combat roll’ button, which I sorely missed for the entire game.
I’ve brought up a lot of negatives here, but before I wrap this review up I should emphasise that Battlefront 2 absolutely succeeds at immersing you inside the Star Wars universe. It accomplishes that through breathtaking reconstructions of planets from films both old and new, with set-pieces that hit every AT-AT toppling note that Star Wars battles should do. There are also screen-wipe transitions aplenty, and I couldn’t stop grinning during an early mission that has you shooting control panels that slam down doors to cover your escape.
If you’re after an authentic feeling, visually stunning romp through your favourite distant galaxy, then that’s one front on which the game doesn’t disappoint.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 is out 16th or 17 November, depending on your timezone. It runs on Windows and costs £55 via Origin. Our multiplayer review will follow soon.
